André Courrèges Vintage Clothes
André Courrèges was born in 1923 in Pau, France, he is known best for his striking modernist designs. He started designing at Geanne Lafaurie although later that year he was head hunted by Spanish designer Balenciage. In 1961 Courrèges opened his own shop Maison de Couture with his Space Age little white dress and a trouser suit. The sixties were perfect for Andre creating his Space Age collection in 1964, his designs are very architecturally with geometric shapes like squares, trapezoids & triangles introduced into clothing, footwear and glasses or goggles. He is one of two designers acclaimed to have designed the mini skirt with dresses coming three inches above the knee! Like Quant he used plastics and PVC in his collection's simple designs boxy and in primary colours or metallic. Courreges designed inspired French youth fashion and shortly after his space age collection, the fashion market exploded with plastic skirts and jackets, white boots, and goggles.
Vintage Courreges is rare and very 1960s modernist, mini skirts & dresses with zip fronts, long floor length coats with large pockets, funky sunglasses with slits very distinctive designs that have survived the decades still with there design integrity intact. His vintage clothing is highly sort after with many of his best pieces in private collections or sold at prestigious auctions for large sums of money. Smaller items or later vintage garments can be bought for reasonable prices but are hard to find.
